Wild that folks keep saying beekeepers abuse bees as if bees are not both venomous flying animals and fully unionized
Hubris to think you COULD abuse bees
I think that if you see a balrog in an unlocked kitty kennel then you can assume that it wants to be there
Actually, beekeepers take many precautions to keep their bees from leaving.
many clip the wings of the queen, destroy new queen cells, cull queens they don’t like and use bee pheromones to prevent a hive from naturally swarming or absconding. They also try and prevent mating with the African honey bee, which makes them less docile among other things. During artificial insemination of queens, drones are crushed and „spare“ queens are killed.
and commercial beekeepers even cull their hives during winter, or when they are not producing well.
Coupled with the fact that there is evidence that insects do feel pain, this is not great.
(Not to mention that honeybees are an invasive species in most places, competing with native pollinators and spreading disease)
It is so fucking bold of you to link the exact same paywalled book thirteen times in your reblog to throw people off the fact that you’re using one source from 1859.
I don’t think there’s ever been a funnier vegan response in the history of this hell site. This is actual gold. If you cited an argument like this in a first year undergrad intro to bio module, then your lecturer would be legally entitled to fire you out of a cannon. I think I’m dying
i can’t beelieve them
i hate when ppl complain abt hot glue guns like sorry u havent gotten to know ur beast. its like a horse you have to have a bond and work together
honestly being bonded to my hot glue gun is 90% of the problem
ever since i was a child ive wanted to attend my own funeral
Well you can’t if youre dead
Hence the paradox
You could fake your death
Intrusive Thoughts are unwanted thoughts or images that you find distressing and/or disturbing.

Remember, your intrusive thoughts aren’t who you really are, they’re not something secret inner-self you’ve hidden away. If it was who you really were, they wouldn’t be so horrifying
i get these all the time its so suffocating and scary

Is this anything
I propose an addition

Been thinking about this graph a little (actually been thinking about it a lot)

This was a fun ride through the universe’s inner thoughts

Don’t read the comments on this article. The kid did it because he was learning about how teenage girls suffer from depression more than any other age group, and didn’t want any girls going home feeling sad on Valentine’s Day.
Ofc half the comments are like “what an EPIC playa, bet he got some action after that hahaha” or “why do these special snowflakes need a handout like this” or “what kind of Richie Rich kid” (chocolate company donated the boxes after learning why he wanted so much)
Like… why is humanity like this
THIS BURNS MY BACON, LET ME SHARE WHY.
At the school where I work, we had a similar lovely Valentine’s moment:

One of our seniors bought hundreds of roses on Valentine’s Day. Every girl in every grade got one; there were enough left over for staff and extras for others who might want one. This is our library bouquet.
One year ago, our school lost a student to suicide. As Valentine’s Day was approaching, this sad anniversary was all our student body was talking about and remembering. This senior student decided to try to lift us up from that narrative, and literally fill the halls with flowers. The surprise was carried out flawlessly – even his own sister didn’t know what he was about to do.
I have rarely seen a happier school holiday.
I’ve seen EXACTLY those comments on social media about what happened with us, and about similar gestures from high school students. Lots of “spoiled kids with money”, lots of “this is just to get laid”.
I don’t think this diminishes my senior student or his gesture at all, but it diminishes us when good things happen and we turn around and reduce these moments to their most cynical interpretation. And that’s not even touching on what it says when people feel the need to belittle younger people for trying to do good; the kids can’t catch a break from some people.
Can’t we take sweet things at face value the way we do all the darkness out there lately?
News flash some boys are kind.
Shouldn’t be news to ANYONE but a lot of people sure like to act like it’s utterly shocking.
HELL YEA LITTLE MAN
Did you know that many gastropods can create a pearl, including terrestrial snails? The difference is nacre which is only found in some species of mollusks and which which gives pearls their beautiful shine. Terrestrial snails occasionally produce very small translucent white pearls which are usually lost. One non-nacre secreting sea snail, the melo melo, produces gorgeous pearls that are extremely prized and rare.

Conches can also produce pearls.

Paua (also called abalone) can make pearls as well- though they are only half-pearls (called mabel pearls)

I have a new favourite batshit rail idea

You’re right. I SHOULD be able to take the train from Minneapolis to Berlin.
(gripping the skink with both hands, pale and feverish, sweating and shaking as I look at myself in the mirror) “killing a character is a valid writing choice that can be a crucial plot mechanic and lend beauty and depth to the story as a whole” (wretches up blood into the sink) “even when it’s my favorite character”

I also drew it

A bioluminescent nudibranch.
Filmed in Norway. From The Norwegian Fjords: Life in the Twilights (2018).

In case you aren’t familiar, Michael Scott Moore and David Rohde are both journalists. Moore was held by Somali pirates for 977 days. Rohde was held captive by the Taliban for 7 months after being abducted in Afghanistan.

I was gonna make a joke about how I say “I need to go the circus again” the way people used to say they need to go to the sea to balance their humors. But I realized the circus balances humors too
