A wonderful musical tribute to Neil Young took place Thursday evening, August, 22, 2024 at Casa Nueva Restaurant & Cantina in Athens, OH.
Steve Zarate along with musicians Steve Carlson, Brad Swiniarski, Caitlin Kraus, and Megan Bee shared the stage.
The set list was 31 songs strong diving deep into Young’s extensive musical catalog.

The three images I am donating this year are from my series of black and white infrared film photographs along Route 66: The Mother Road. In March, I displayed several of these images in my ‘Selected Works 1990-2020’ exhibition at the Porterville College Art Gallery and have had museum and gallery exhibitions of the Route 66 project across America, including Las Vegas in 2003, as well as internationally in Mexico City in 2015.

Afro-Atlantic Histories charts the transatlantic slave trade and its legacies in the African diaspora. Through a series of dialogues across time, the exhibition features artworks produced in Africa, Europe, and the Americas in the last four centuries to reexamine—from a global perspective—histories and stories of enslavement, resilience, and the struggle for liberation.
The exhibition is organized around six groupings: Maps and Margins, Enslavements and Emancipations, Everyday Lives, Rites and Rhythms, Portraits, and Resistances and Activism. Each section considers the critical impact of the African diaspora reflected in historic and contemporary artworks.
Histórias Afro-Atlânticas originated at the Museu de Arte de São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand (MASP) and the Instituto Tomie Ohtake in Brazil, in 2018. Touring venues in the U.S. include the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the National Gallery of Art, and the Dallas Museum of Art. TONIGHT 5-7 pm Porterville College Art Gallery join me in celebrating the opening reception of my Selected Works 1990-2020 exhibition that features my most successful and celebrated photographic work of the famed “Mother Road” US Route 66 that was featured at the Brünz Rosowsky Gallery in Las Vegas in 2003. These pieces were all hand-made from structural steel with the carbon pigment prints mounted on grinder scalloped sheets of aluminum. This was by far my most ambitious non-traditional mounting and display presentation of my photographs. Found an old 70’s Corvette door to use for my artist statement. Well well that was some interesting pioneer primitive living with no power and no contact with the outside world since Friday. Stopped measuring snow at 38” with another 6” today and 24”-48” predicted through Wednesday.
