So I never posted about this before but one of my favorite tv shows growing up was The Amazing World of Gumball and I’ve been watching the new Hulu sequel series recently,
The episode about them taking Anais to Daisy Land got a little too real for me as an only daughter in a family of sons 😭
That moment where she’s petting her floppy ears and going “No no it’s fine I understand our family needs and the boys always need more than me,” had me about to cry like NO NO STOP DON’T SAY THAT BABY GIRL NO!!!
Genuinely, seeing Nicole go from “My daughter is so understanding!” to snapping and going purple goku mode because she is NOT letting her daughter feel like that actually healed me a little.
Quote from my rambles in a personal gc:
…her voice actress sounds older so it’s really giving “daughters who grow up faster than their male relatives but they’re still kids”, I always liked Anais as a cute lil bunny character and it makes my soul happy they made an episode about how the family should do better and uplift her rather than constantly assume she’ll be fine in the background.
Like this felt directly like the writers were addressing how Anais was treated in the original run of the show and wanted to make up for it. Her VA did SUCH a good job giving warmth and childlike joy in her lines for this episode and I am so proud of this show for being so unashamed to say things loudly while also taking time to care for its characters so considerately.
