i love isekai fanfiction that gets really meta with it’s themes and stuff, like i want the protagonist who got transported into their favorite place to feel guilty about knowing so much about these people and their lives without their knowledge or even consent. i want them to struggle with the concept of either lying to these people or telling them a truth that might shatter their reality. how would you respond to this person who you’ve become close with telling you that not only do they know intimate moments about you, but they know about these moments because you are just a form of entertainment or escapism to them in another world? it would be so fucking creepy and violating and terrifying!!!

Baelor is that guy who somehow knows everyone’s name, remembers their dad, their horse, their cousin who died in the war, and is like “ah yes, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, good man ” while casually putting Dunk at ease like they’re old drinking buddies. He’s warm observant, socially fluent, and effortlessly decent.

And then there’s Maekar, barging in like who the fuck is this? every five minutes, zero people skills, zero interest in knowing who anyone is. He’s throwing verbal haymakers, doesn’t recognize names, doesn’t care to.

Baelor is the well-liked senior who talks to everyone, teachers love him, underclassmen trust him, and you’re like oh wow, royalty can be normal. Maekar is the intense sibling everyone vaguely knows exists, always angry, always looming, and somehow still shocked that people don’t like him.

one of my favorite things about the show’s finale is that in the actual credits after that scene of maekar, they use the song “sixteen tons” by merle travis!! a song the singer wrote about his time in the kentucky coal mines!!! the lyrics are so fucking CHEF’S KISS for dunk and the story i feel like s1 of this show is trying to tell. here is my favorite line from the song:
