OK FUN FACT i also thought this picture was hilarious when i encountered it a few months ago, so i was curious how it ended up on wikipedia

it turns out the uploader is in fact the woman in the photo (she’s uploaded a few other pictures of herself to other articles) and she ran an extremely web 1.0 site on the topic of bondage

this was apparently a long-standing fantasy of hers and she did an entire video plus accompanying photoshoot about it, which was run in a bondage magazine in the 90s and did in fact take place on an abandoned train track. they committed to the bit hard enough that there’s even a shot of the sinister villain looming over her with a big document labeled DEED and a pen

what does animatic mean?

“Animatic” in animation is the step between storyboard and the animation. It’s basically when the artists take the storyboard pannels and put them on a video, sometimes cleaning them up and adding some in betweens to make the movement more clear.

In this vid, you could say that from min 0:28 to 1:12 is the animatic and from 1:12 to 1:33 is the storyboard.

It’s very useful though? How else am i supposed to search for any kind of drawn/animated video of my favorite ship? Like, are there better broad terms for these kinds of videos?

AMV (animated music video) or PMV (picture music video) used to be the most common, and still are on some communities. Also simple “animation” or “animated” works too sometimes.

I’m not saying to stop using “animatic”, cause some videos ARE animatics. But animatic in animation basically means “this is unfinished” and its kinda strange (to me at least) to find it on fully animated/rendered videos.

I’m guessing this comes bc some people have made “PMVs” using (often stealing) art from google images, or made “AMVs” using clips from the anime/movie/cartoon/game itself (back in the 10’s they were also called “animash” but now ig people are calling them simply “edits”?) so maybe some artists are using “animatic” to make them easier to find or something idk
