6 hour workday maximum i’m not kidding, if it can’t be done in that timeframe it doesn’t need doing.
this doesn’t apply to jobs like childcare
If i worked in childcare and my 6 hours were up i would start putting babies in ziploc bags and shipping them to Turkmenistan listed as endangered fruits and vegetables

as a denizen of this busted ass website for half my life now i do know how staff works and i’m going to lay out what they think will happen as someone who has witnessed this exact thing play out
like . I cant even blame them for being like “we’ll monitor for the week”. Remember when they changed the blue back in like 2015? This website acted like staff had gone into their house and shot their dog. We’re here because we’re allergic to change and therefore it’s hard to parse if people hate the change because it’s bad or because we go into thermonuclear meltdown over what color blue the background of the website is. Just continue to bug them beyond today and beyond this week.
i’m seeing a lot of people posting their discord handle and i can’t overstate how much i don’t like that alternative. and i’m saying that as someone who’s been burned by tumblr before (more than once, actually). there’s a reason i still came back here. i know we call this the mutual website but i don’t want to draw, write, teorize, talk to just twenty people. i like that total strangers can interact with the things i do–i like that i can interact with things from total strangers! i don’t want to gatekeep things. that’s why we’re all on a blogging platform and not in a message app.
We here at Tumblr have noticed everyone has very strong feelings about every post on this site being changed to a picture of Lex Luthor from The CW’s Smallville with the words “Lex Get Bald Tonight” over it. To this we say: we’re listening. we hear you. and we couldn’t give a rat’s ass what you think. Get out there and start balding.
what does it mean?

Everybody get bald tonight
i love the phrase “which could mean nothing” i think its my favorite thing to come out of the internet ever i love saying it. it could mean nothing but we all know better. we know the truth.

excuse me, no I wasn’t???
ALTcongratulations to today’s lucky 10000
i’m really sorry about my behavior. you see, growing up, my family- *remembers blaming all my problems on other people is really annoying and unhealthy* i mean. i am responsible for all the evils of this world and i bear sins like the sky bears the stars
everyone talking about leaving this app for good is stronger than me. wheres that one post thats like “I’d be here even if you could only make posts with 3 letters at a time”
roll back the site. right now. you guys lied:

All of these notes from a post from 2024 have been re-attributed. @changes @staff I’ve worked for most of my life in web dev and I’ve never seen a social media site run as poorly as yours and I worked at twitter for a while. roll it back. go back to the drawing board. this is atrocious for the end user. the OP will no longer see any activity on a site where promoting interaction was hard enough but now you can’t even interact without the OP never seeing it. you have fucked up. fix it.
lowkey ingenious if this is a roundabout way to kill off the user base and switch off the site. if that is the case though i do wish they’d just nut up and fucking turn the servers off
Test One
Test Two
Test Three
Test Four
Reblogged from test three after replying twice on all previous reblogs; every previous post or reblog also includes two tags. Replies, comments, and tags from original post and two interim reblogs are not visible on fourth reblog of this post.
Test Five
Views of notes on each of the prior tests (Note, there are four existing posts at this point, each with comments and tags, so test three is a reblog of test two, test four is a reblog of test three; in previous iterations of tumblr all of the tags, replies, and comments on those posts would have been visible in the notes of every one of those reblogs).
Test One:

Test Two:

Test Three:

Test Six
Literally none of the reblogs with tags or comments are visible on the blog activity, the only visible activity is the replies and even as the OP of the post I can only see the replies on the individual reblog that was replied to.

This seems to make it impossible to have a conversation with anyone on a post except the person directly replying to your reblog, so instead of being a conversation in the town square kind of feeling, it has more of a “I hope my email finds you well” or passing notes vibe.
Trash.
This is what I was trying to test/demonstrate.
Thanks, I hate it.
I honestly don’t get it. Everything about this post seems completely normal to me. Is this just a problem with how you see interactions if you are the op? Or is it something that’s not rolled out to my app again, like all those button changes everyone keeps complaining about?
Like I can see all the replies if I go to the replies tab. The post has something over 200 notes and they all seem to be there.
I feel stupid because I don’t see the problem.
Is it just a problem when posting or do other people also have problems properly seeing posts?
This is how the notes of the sixth post look from that blog right now:

I am reblogging this from you, you will see this as a note on your post; if someone reblogs this from me with a response to you, you will not see it unless you click into my reblog and look at the activity on that reblog.
Also how the notes on the original post look at right this second while I’m on that blog, when you’re saying there are 200something notes on the post:

Someone has mentioned that in the un-updated app they saw over 900 notes; I checked on my app and it was almost 1500 notes, while the original on my blog still shows 6 notes and the most popular thread shows just over 700. So, let’s use polls.

If you send feedback via Tumblr’s feedback form (which you SHOULD do), you will get an autoreply telling you to leave a comment on the changes.tumblr.com blog (which you should also do!). Just make sure you’re actually doing it on the reblog of this post from changes since, due to their own shitty update, they cannot/will not see the SIXTY THOUSAND NOTES that this update has generated, 99% of which are negative.
Since some of you don’t seem to understand how this ‘new notes’ thing works, I’ll break it down:
I’m the OP. I’m making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I’m the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won’t see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog…as OP I won’t see that. I won’t see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they’re, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn’t see it, doesn’t get notes for it, but they’re gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it’s not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!’ then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They’ll only see my reblog. So it’s possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it’s been seen by that many people.
It’s killing blow to the community we’ve built here, by someone higher up who doesn’t understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That’s what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr’s support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback’ and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?’, try that way of wording it). They’re more likely to listen to you if you’re not an asshole about it. I’ve already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.
so as long as tumblr keeps this, here’s the tumblr version of etiquette that was maintained when twitter’s quote-retweets affected artist visibility/notes:
reblog comments are comments added to the body of a post, not the tags and not replies.
saw someone including “Mandate of Heaven” as one of those christian terms tumblr likes to use to sound profound. which i get where you’re coming from but t☝️hat one is chinese
holdon

what the fuck is going on in this site’s backend
The world is filled with very talented artists. Illustrators, writers, musicians, but I can’t help but think about all the artists who never get the chance to have their ideas shared. Because of where they were born. People in the US or Japan get to tell their stories often, not all of them but many. Because the entertainment industries in these countries are very big, and the stories made there are shared worldwide and known by many.
Imagine if the idea for chainsaw man was created by someone living in say, Chile. Would they have been able to publish a full series of books for it? Would it have been nearly as widespread and popular? So many of the best things have humble begginings. Imagine all of the stories you would have loved that either never got made or never reached your eyes. Sad!
So I encourage you to engage with art made outside your country. You may find your new favorite thing!
Disgust has absolutely no ethical weight. If you are basing your ethical positions on the emotion of disgust you should stop, it is entirely unjustified and leads to a huge amount of harm.

Word for today: wisdom of repugnance
The logical fallacy that because something disgusts you it must be bad
ALTthis is probably the funniest example of a tumblr user simply not reading the post theyre reblogging at all
new who peaked when it had christopher eccleston look the last living dalek dead in the eyestalk & tell it to kill itself, only for the response to be “you would make a good dalek” there is absolutely no topping that.
