Space Elves, Techno-Organics and Hero School

@interstellar-elf
I'm an artist of sorts: uses Clip Studio Paint and ink. Right now I'm a mess of Oban Star Racers, My Hero Academia, Transformers, and paranormal stuff. There will be spoilers and headcannons.

We’re winning.

I found his bio on societyofpresidentialdescendants.org and it was so delightful I had to copy paste the whole thing:

“Ulysses Grant Dietz grew up in Syracuse, New York, where his Leave it to Beaver life was enlivened by his fascination with vampires, from Bela Lugosi to Barnabas Collins. He studied French at Yale (BA, 1977), and was trained to be a museum curator in the University of Delaware’s Winterthur Program in American Material Culture (MA, 1980). A decorative arts curator at the Newark Museum for thirty-seven years before he retired, Ulysses has never stopped writing for the sheer pleasure of it. Aside from books on Victorian furniture, art pottery, studio ceramics, jewelry, and the White House, Ulysses created the character of Desmond Beckwith in 1988 as his personal response to Anne Rice’s landmark novels. Alyson Books released his first novel, Desmond, in 1998. Vampire in Suburbia, the sequel, appeared in 2012. His most recent novel, Cliffhanger, was released by JMS Books in December 2020.

“Ulysses lives in suburban New Jersey with his husband of 45 years. They have two grown children, adopted in 1996.

“Ulysses is a great-great grandson of Ulysses S. Grant. His late mother, Julia, was the President’s last living great-grandchild; youngest daughter of Ulysses S. Grant III, and granddaughter of the president’s eldest son, Frederick. Every year on April 27 he gives a speech at Grant’s Tomb in New York City. He is also on the board of the U.S. Grant Presidential Library and Museum at Mississippi State University.”

And frankly, the novels sound like they slap:

Desmond was nominated for a Lambda Award.

“With his husband of 45 years.” You kids don’t know … they got together before AIDS, at the peak of the Gay Glam Life. They stayed together as their generation died around them, and made through it to the point where they could marry and have a legal family. He looks like a chipper preppie who never had a serious thought or care in the world, but it took *incredible* determination, commitment, and also luck to get here.

having now read the first of this man’s vampire books, you can absolutely tell that he cares a lot about historical furniture because oh my god he really wanted to tell us about all the historical furniture in this vampire’s house. material culture as foreplay. seduction via theses about chairs

If your life is horrible and you need a new source of meaning and direction…. Do NOT find religion. Learn to identify plants.

THIS!

Birds are good too, sure, but learning plants is like learning a secret magic language. Once you learn a bunch of them every place starts to speak to you in that language. You know things about a place by what grows there. The living world starts to feel more intimate, more close to you in a personal way. It’s hard to describe. By learning plants you become part of an in-crowd you didn’t know existed, the Earth’s in-crowd. You are literally seeing things that are invisible to nearly everyone else. And something out there befriends you for it.

It may seem difficult at first but if you didn’t have the capacity in your genetics your ancestors would never have survived. And clearly they did.

Edit: And religion is cool too, and spiritual life. You just have to be careful when you’re down because some people will try to take over your life with some religion and change who you are. But religion is a great joy to a lot of people. Plants will always be there when people let you down.

a lot of ADHD behaviours and barriers feel like sims logic playing out in real time like i did my laundry but i had to pee and sleep so i stopped and i haven’t folded it yet except i can’t fold it yet because i need to eat but i can’t eat because the laundry basket is in front of the fridge. someone keeps queuing actions but they’re getting cancelled

No because I actually used the sims queue to explain my ADHD to my partner once (which he admitted he found very helpful), that I have a list and it needs to be done in a specific order and how if he interjects a large queue, each item then gets deleted and has to be re-added (taking a lot of energy) and sometimes the queue items delete themselves when I enter a room for no reason.

Not to mention, somehow things take way longer than they seem like they should and the day goes by SO quickly and there’s always so much more stuff to do and it’s impossible to keep on top of it because you have to do silly things like eat and sleep and work. And if your queue gets interrupted, that throws the entire timeline into disarray. Also every so often your entire body betrays you (bladder, fatigue, hunger, illness) and then that overrides everything and nothing gets done at all.

And gods help you if something needs to be mopped.

I’d like MAHA criticism so much better if it didn’t resort to calling anything that isn’t a pill or surgery as alt medicine, or “woo woo pseudoscience” or when people stop acting like RFK Jr going after Dunkin Donuts as the most evil shit he’s done ever.

I say this because I saw a skit which treated Native American smoke cleansing as something MAHA would do in lieu of surgery without understanding how racist that came off or how ignorant they appeared to be. That’s not what smudging is! I

In actuality, I don’t think people know what MAHA is more likely to advocate than relying on thinking it’s all crystals and voodoo and Tibertan singing bowls. It isn’t that, in fact I’d argue the majority of people into MAHA would try to ban meditation practices and yoga studios for “indoctrination into non-Christian religion” and be against crystals because they see them as “idol worship.”

At this point, I won’t be surprised if someone calls the lamaze method MAHA pseudoscience because it doesn’t come in the shape of a pill.

In fact, I’m more surprised no one is going after the vitamin and herbal supplement which is highly unregulated and doesn’t get as much oversight by the FDA as everyone thinks it is. The same group of people think vitamin supplements will cure cancer because they trust that pill and not the doctors. That’s the real MAHA, but I rarely see that ever criticized as of lately.

Please please please can we stop calling unnecessary sequels and remakes by big companies “bad fanfic”??? Even the most poorly-written fics are somehow born from a love of the original text. A soulless cash grab made people who don’t give two shits about what they are actually creating is not “bad fanfic” and will never be.

Everyone look at the cat blanket I made like .. 3 years ago

Btw don’t believe any Etsy ad or things trying to sell this pattern to you. It’s been free since the 90s. It’s very simple, just double crochet and color changes. Be sure to weave in ends as you go unlike me

MY MOM JUST MADE THIS PATTERN EVERYONE LOOK

YOU CAN DO IT IN SO MANY COLORS

I spontaneously sent this to my brother (likes cats and crochet) and it turns out hes been looking for a free version of this pattern for ages
