Another game with Tovolar, and it felt like a repeat of last weekend. Putting aside the Ashling precon in the mix (which is fucking disgusting, btw), I am woefully underpowered when going up against decks that casually apply +1/+1 counters on a whim faster than I can say “Untap, upkeep, draw”.

So I will likely dismantle it because I know I don’t own much in the way of powerful red, green or Gruul stuff that is not already in other decks.

Werewolf tribal can snowball fast if left unchecked. The day/night mechanic makes it rough for spell-light decks. Did anyone manage to keep it flipped back to day?

Zirilan is such a fun dragon toolbox commander. Flash in dragons on opponents’ turns, swing with them, then let them bounce back to hand. That altered art is gorgeous.

Interrogation Report: Lighthouse Attacker

I interrogated the captive who attacked the lighthouse just now. She is a member of the Brokers faction of New Capenna, and was part of a team sent after a fugitive of some sort who escaped through the Capenna omenpath. We suspect that said fugitive was a member of the Sultai, and blended in with the Lighthouse guards. All Lighthouse Sultai are now being reanimated and we will learn more in the coming days.

Please for the love of lightning fences attend the Khan summit this time. This is a serious issue that NEEDS to be addresses by our leader, and not me or Rufus. If EVERY OTHER KHAN AND EVERY SINGLE SPIRIT DRAGON CAN MAKE IT EVERY TIME, you can too. You and I both know how PISSED Neriv is about this.

strixhaven is looking like it’s gonna be. a good set

Strixhaven’s spell-slinging theme is perfect for instants and sorceries matter decks. The Learn/Lesson mechanic was brilliant for Limited but feels kind of clunky in Commander. Still love that set’s aesthetic though.

Zirilan has always been one of those underrated dragon commanders. The altered art here really brings out the character. Love seeing old school legends get fresh treatments.

Tovolar can be tricky to pilot well. The day/night mechanic gets confusing when multiple people are casting spells. Sounds like you had fun with it though, and that’s what matters at the end of the day.

Always appreciate seeing non-AI custom work. Courser of Kruphix is such a solid card for Commander. The art on these custom pieces looks clean.

Welcome to Commander! It’s a lot to take in at first but once you find a deck theme you like, everything clicks. Don’t stress too much about optimal plays early on, just have fun with it.
