At the end of the day: If I make an original post on MY OWN BLOG, then when I click on the notes of MY POST on MY OWN FUCKING BLOG, I should be able to see absolutely EVERY SINGLE piece of engagement with MY POST that has EVER happened. The fact that even by clicking on MY OWN ORIGINAL POST I can’t see all the commentary that has been added to MY POST is unacceptable.

I’d love it if just once a company could admit their own fuck-up without having to drag it out. Instead of feigning ignorance, and giving us the phony “we hear you” speech that always means nothing, they just changed their fucking minds and moved on from their mistake. Why is it always a war of attrition with these companies?

Reblogs in a chain now get their own notes

The reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else. All the notes on reblogs are attributed to the original post, no matter which branch people actually liked or reblogged. We want to keep encouraging conversations, and give contributors the recognition they deserve. 

Soon, you’ll be able to like, reblog, or reply to any part of a reblog chain, and that note will go to that reblog’s author. Each reblog will have its own counts, instead of one aggregated number from every version of the post. And yes, you’ll be able to like multiple posts in one chain.

If a reblog doesn’t add anything, the love flows up to the last person in the chain who did. Your post doesn’t lose notes just because people spread it quietly.

Past notes will stay on the original post — we’re only changing what happens from here on out. Retroactively re-attributing all of them would be… a lot.

This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out – stay tuned!

Let’s talk about reblog notes.

We rolled out a significant change to how notes work on reblogs, and the reaction has been strong. We’re not going to pretend otherwise. 

First things first: We’re reversing the change. Your feedback in comments, emails, and especially reblogs, made clear that the rollout created problems we need to address before moving forward. We also should have communicated this differently from the start, and we didn’t.

We still believe there’s a better version of how reblogs can work. One that gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves. But we want to get there with you.

In the coming days we’ll share more on how we plan to do that,  including ways to work directly with some of you on this and future changes before they ship.

Reblog if you do NOT want the new Tumblr update

Apparently, from what I hear people say, in the new Tumblr update, if someone reblogs your post and adds a comment of their own, that reblog is counted as a new post and it belongs to the reblogger. Not you. You, as the OP, do not get the notifications if someone else later reblogs from the person who reblogged your post with their own comment. You can’t see what comments people leave on the reblogs of the post you originally made unless they reblogged directly from you.

If this is actually true, it will just open doors for harassment. And also it takes the credits away from the OPs. Tumblr’s etiquette has always been “reblog don’t repost”. So this new update, if true, contradicts the whole core values of Tumblr as a community.

Respectfully, we don’t want this @staff @support @tumblr @changes please listen to your users.

I’d also like to clarify that this is what I hear from what a lot of people are saying, and it bothers me. But if I got anything wrong, I do apologize.

If you look at female representation throughout history, you’d notice their characterization is heavily tied to the men in their lives - usually their husbands - so it’s reasonable for someone to come up and ask “hey what’s she like outside her relationship with husband?” And there’s nothing wrong with that… it only becomes an issue when that relationship’s importance is completely disregarded or rewritten as abusive. Bc yes, Hera being Zeus’s wife and loving him is important, Andromeda being Perseus’s wife and loving him is important, Penelope being Odysseus’s wife and loving him is important, Lady Macbeth being Macbeth’s wife and loving him is important and so on.

Ppl really think they’re being innovative and fresh when they make these women secretly hate their husbands and/or never wanted to marry them and/or that they’re in love with someone else but is dull, needlessly depressing and ironically removes these women’s agency and emotions.
