A few days ago, when the snow melted, I found out that one of the neighbourhood fawns had perished over the cold months.

I’m weirdly tore up about it; I watched this particular set of three fawns grow up over the summer and I was really rooting for the smallest one because it was adopted by its aunt when it’s own mother (first time mom) stopped caring for it.

At the end of the day, I guess it just didn’t get enough nutrients (compared to the twins) to get big enough before the winter.

Finally using her cave for its intended purpose instead of treating it like an expensive toy.

Huh, I guess putting the toy bin on the ground was the right call.

In at least half of my photos of her she’s tucked in, maybe I should get her a sweater since she’s so chilly all the time.

Not sure that’s right but your suggestion is noted Apple.

the charm of the great chain of things is that you’ll see reptile keeper circles recommending isopods as a cleanup crew in your enclosures and then you’ll go look into isopods and there is a whole separate community where their main event is the isopods themselves and pet isopod care and they recommend also keeping springtails as a cleanup crew for the isopods and you look into springtails and there is a whole separate community where their main event is the springtails and they’re posting photos of springtails and going They’re soooooo cuuuute

Genuinely amazed that she manages to consistently get in my line of sight when I’m working. How does she do it? How does she know??

Can someone explain why she has a worm-neck (a wide part of her body located near her head)

Finally getting a preliminary examination for a connective tissue disorder (Yahoo!). There still a good chance it won’t end up in a diagnosis since I have signs of other disorders other than hEDS but at least it’s a start.

Things that make Bugs tail puff up:

  • A sudden draft.
  • The feeling of grass on her paws.
  • The cold basement floor.
  • Piece of paper on the floor.
  • Fidget spinner.
  • The smell of blueberry juice.
  • Licking a drop of melted ice cream off my shirt.
  • New toy!
  • Can’t find favorite toy.
  • I won’t give her more toothpaste.
  • Birds outside?
  • People walking upstairs.
  • Water.

During Canadian Spring you can never trust the weather forecast. It hailed today — in full sun — :’)

Cat with silver-tabby spots/stripes with the fur on its tail bristled making it appear large and brush-like.ALT

She puffed her tail up because she couldn’t find her favourite ball.

I did not account for how difficult it would be to find treats/snacks/oral care products for a cat with a meat protein allergy. The first ingredient in a lot of edible products for cats is usually eggs, chicken meal, or fish meal. Even one of the insect protein formulas I tried still contained eggs and provoked ulcers in her mouth :(

She’s on a hydrolyzed protein now and I found a toothpaste with malt flavour she likes but I’ll likely have to make her treats myself if I want to give her some sensory variety.

Even though she can’t see she still enjoys her window. Every morning I open it a crack for her so she can smell the air and listen to the world.

So far she’s had nose boops with two of the neighbour cats and a baby deer.

I feel so fortunate as I lay in bed with Bug hugging my feet, feeling her belly fur between my toes, and touching her toe-beans with my toe-beans.

If I ever had doubts about how I’ve been raising this creature they are gone now. It’s become apparent to me that most of what people complain about when they complain about cat behaviour is actually people complaining about trust issues and anxiety in creatures they’ve chosen to share a home with.

Bug is without a doubt the most vocal cat I’ve ever lived with (tbh it’s a relief since I know she’ll ask for help if her blind ass gets stuck somewhere.)

She has a lot of really unique and different vocalizations ranging from quiet chirrups to EXTREMELY LONG AND LOUD SCREAMING that she reserves for when I go upstairs without her.

It’s really cool having a cat that 1) listens, and 2) responds with specific noises depending on the situation.

  • She has a ‘I’m hungry’ noise (more like a bark than a meow)
  • A two-tone whine that sounds like a see-saw for when she is stuck somewhere.
  • A tiny chirp for when she’s trying to get me to play.
  • Small lilting meow that sounds like she’s asking a question when she wants to go under the blankets.
  • Another one for when she wants to have window time.

I’m still working on identifying some of the other ones but it’s been interesting for sure.

I think one of my favourite things about Bug is that her tongue will sometimes fall out of her mouth when she falls asleep.

Bug’s protein elimination chart

Due to being born in less than ideal conditions my cat has developed an allergy to meat protein that causes her to get ulcers on her face/mouth/digestive tract/skin. This means I need to feed her special food and occasionally test protein sources to see if they are viable.

Chicken

Eggs

Duck

Salmon

White Fish

Pork

Beef

Looks like vertebrate proteins aren’t really an option.

Meal worms - she has difficulty finding these

Shrimps

Crab

Oyster

Man, I kind of regret getting her the heated blanket because she doesn’t cuddle with me as much anymore. I am glad that she has more places to exist on her own and I happy that she’s becoming more self-sufficient; but I do miss feeling her soft fur and toe beans.

My housemate got an 8-week-old kitten and as expected socializing them is the most awkward experience for both of them. Despite this, they both continue to want to play so badly.

Update: they are obsessed with each other.
