Since some of you don’t seem to understand how this ‘new notes’ thing works, I’ll break it down:
I’m the OP. I’m making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I’m the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won’t see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog…as OP I won’t see that. I won’t see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they’re, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn’t see it, doesn’t get notes for it, but they’re gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it’s not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!’ then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They’ll only see my reblog. So it’s possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it’s been seen by that many people.
It’s killing blow to the community we’ve built here, by someone higher up who doesn’t understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That’s what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr’s support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback’ and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?’, try that way of wording it). They’re more likely to listen to you if you’re not an asshole about it. I’ve already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.
What I’m planning to do about it, after sending in feedback
tbh even if you read comics in order there are still things that are confusing. like some series refer to series that will come out in a few months that never end up getting made. some things in comics are a reference to things outside of comics that you might not know about. some have unexpected changes in directions that you could only understand if you look for some interview from the creator. sometimes there are things in the comics that just don’t make sense at all. so whether your path is reading all the comics in order or out of order, confusion awaits you.
Those ‘accidental ouroboros’ crossover events where an early comic in the event relies on a later comic to have already happened in order for the plot to make sense, but the later comic relies on the earlier one to have already happened to make sense. No matter what reading order you pick, it’s wrong.
People don’t even want to say le sigh anymore. le sigh
#but I am more le tired than ever
opening tumblr in march and it’s just like “huh. knife weather we’re having.”
Actually one thing I love about Tim Drake is that in comics he cameos in, he’s like the fixer?? Like, people just go to him with problems and expect him to talk them through it/help them and he just does??? He’s always doing some little job for someone, digging into people’s pasts or offering moral support and I love that??? He’s so competent, how could I not love him??
you think a gothamite ever got canceled because they said their fav female hero was Batman and everyone thought it was in a “he’s a girl to me” kinda way but in reality they were an ex no man lander

home after a night out
I’ve asked this question before and been surprised by the results, now I have access to more weirdos it’s your problem:
It is the middle of a Sunday afternoon. You have nothing on, and aren’t expecting visitors, deliveries or post.
Unexpectedly, there is a knock at the door.
Not naming options to skew votes but…
I think there’s something fundamentally baffling with the way most of you think.
Happy birthday to this iconic poll

Bruce swinging on a chandelier and being like “man Robin would be so into this”
I love that Dick Grayson’s fondness for swinging from chandeliers was established as early as (checks date) 1940, the literal year he was created. Core Character Trait.
(Detective Comics #42 btw)
He finally got to do it, y'all:

(Batman #4)

And here he is getting to swing from… what is clearly a lamp but the narration says its a chandelier so I guess it counts…again! (World’s Best Comics #1). Thats 2 chandelier swings within a couple months our boy did not waste time once he got started.

so i just went as far back as possible in my ao3 history (and damn yall tbt a time before ao3. what a bleak world that was when we had to either go digging for forums of specific fandoms or use fanfiction dot net my most beloathed!!! we are so blessed. thank you ao3)
and apparently i have read or visited something like 11,600 individual fics since i got on ao3!!! which both feels very big and very small.
i got this number by going to history, scrolling to the bottom, seeing how many pages of history i have, and multiplying that number by twenty (cuz ao3 lists 20 results per page). 580 pages of results = ~11,600 individual fics. (ao3 sorts rereads of the same fic as one result, and also counts deleted fics in results!!!)
which made me so curious:
approximately how many fics have you read/visited on ao3, based on your ao3 history (# of pages of results on your ‘history’ page x 20)???
0 - 100
101 - 500
501 - 1,000
1,001 - 3,000
3,001 - 6,000
6,001 - 10,000
10,001 - 15,000
15,001 - 20,000
20,001 - 25,000
25,001 - 30,000
30,001 +
i do not have an ao3 account :-(
husband just reminded me of that time years ago when we were running a co-op farm in stardew valley
after we got married in-game it did the thing it does and asked us if we wanted to have a baby
we were like yeah sure why not, we’re not having kids irl so may as well have a cute lil’ virtual baby that costs us nothing and we can turn into a dove at any time
like the very next day we got that super rare 0.8% chance event that we had NO CLUE ABOUT where a freaking alien capsule drops on your farm in the middle of the night and the next day it’s like shattered and whatever was inside is running loose
and we just froze and looked at each other like “??? is this our baby???” 😭😔

c'mon guys i really can’t handle another shitpost flooding my inbox
especially not one about me and my husband’s stardew valley alien baby
cease this behavior at once

i hate it here
I want to write more in 2026. And there’s only one way I can do it—by writing the most self-indulgent garbage you have ever seen.
I hate having banger fanfic ideas. What do you expect me to do? Write them down????????????
the people who enjoy the type of art you create, will like it even if it’s imperfect. and the people who hate the type of art you create, will dislike it even if it IS perfect.
don’t skip ahead of bullies and bully yourself first. don’t badmouth your own work, it doesn’t alter other people’s opinion on art, but it does make you feel worse about yourself.
If you’re writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn’t include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I’ve internalized from TV and video games.
