Fish Arcade Extreme Mod – Limited Field of View and Speed

Another game. And a modification. The second modification. These are Pascal games. And about fish. An arcade game about fish. They swim in water and avoid rocks. Rectangles. Small levels, 10 seconds, half a minute. And 8 levels. A simple game. Leisurely.

And this is a modification of this game. I’ve had this idea for a long time. First, to increase the speed of gameplay. Everything has gotten faster. And second, to add a dark water effect. That is, when you can’t see anything ahead. Half the screen is dark. And you have to react faster. That’s why it’s called “Extreme.” Because of the smaller field of view.

Again, I changed the splash screen a bit. And the title screen. So it’s clear that this is a modification. And here’s the idea – the field of view. Limited visibility. As if deep underwater. A kind of complication. Or a gameplay feature. And an increase in the speed of gameplay. Basically, everything is the same as in the original game.

There are 8 levels. They’re longer now, though. Half a minute and then a minute. First, there are 4 levels of half a minute each. Then there are 4 levels of a minute each. The rest of the game is the same as before. This is, after all, a modification, not a second part. And not an expansion.

The fish are swimming in the water. I updated the text on the splash screens, before the game, and after the game is completed. And I tweaked the image a bit. Added more bubbles. Changed the background. And the game itself. Now we have a fast game. The dynamics have increased. This is programmed in the Graph module for Free Pascal. The module itself, as I understand it, is basically Turbo Pascal. And this module is needed for working with graphics. It’s a graphics library. Tons of functions. It’s great for static images. Like drawing a nice, colorful graph. But the dynamics are a bit worse. It starts flickering.

So, I increased the speed of the gameplay. But not that much. And it’s the same game. You have to avoid black rectangles. Avoid obstacles. And on the right, the field of view will decrease. This means there’s darker, impenetrable water there. And black squares emerge from there. Rocks. The obstacles here are rocks.

There’s also a little blue or green bar at the bottom of the screen. These are your lives. You now have 10 of them. And this bar shows it. In the bottom center of the screen. This bar represents the gameplay itself. Like the wide film strip on old movies. And the same bar represents your lives.

This modification is essentially my first mod. When I have a game, and I have an idea to change something a little. Add some gameplay feature. Add something or update something. Small modifications to existing games.

The fish is fun. There’s even a short story. And at the same time, there’s a description of the game with a little text. The fish is swimming. In the water. And the entire screen is the thickness of the water. And in the middle is what the fish sees.

An arcade game about fish, in theory. It’s like a runner. Only here the fish swim. And there’s a story before and after the game. You can swim anywhere. In a pond, a river, a lake, an ocean, a sea. There are so many places to swim! It’s amazing!

By the way, the topic of modifications is also a way to remind people about the game. And maybe even spark ideas for a second game. And it’s not that difficult to program. You just need to change and add something. And the fish are in the water. The fish are swimming. And enjoying life. The fish are doing well!

Galixanar – underwater aliens, submarines, and monsters

An arcade game. It runs on MS-DOS, with 64 colors and a 320x240 screen resolution. It’s something like Galixanar or Space Invaders. You move left and right with the arrow keys. And you shoot with the spacebar. That’s all you need to know. There’s also an escape key to exit the game.

The game is simple, and perfect for relaxing. Eight simple levels. Two lines of enemies. There are 10 enemy sprites. Two lines of 10 enemies per line. They move slightly left and right. So the image isn’t static, but a little more dynamic. They dance a little. Left and right. One step left, one step right. One step left. One step right.

And now they move forward, about 5 pixels at a time. For example, take a step forward 5 pixels toward the player every five seconds. It’s just like Space Invaders. As soon as those monsters get right up to you, you lose!

Also, you have 1,000 energy units. That’s lives. Monsters shoot 100 at a time. And if you shoot, three shots equals one monster. So you have to hit the monster three times. I tweaked the entire menu so everything displays properly. I wrote my own image display method. But there, it’s just letters and numbers. That’s a task for a programmer.

And then a language selection screen appeared. Russian and English. Before the game starts. All the text in the game is actually BMB images. There are 8 levels. And the odd levels have a dark purple tone. And the even levels are pure black. For variety. And a retro effect. Also, the odd levels have all the monster sprites. So, there are 10 different types. And there are 20 of them on the screen. And on even levels, only one enemy type is always shown. So, all 20 monsters are some kind of one type. Everything is done randomly.

Something like music appeared. In WAV file format. It’s not even music. It’s underwater sounds. As if you’re underwater. Deep in water, submerged in the ocean depths and blowing bubbles there. It turned out very atmospheric! Deep-sea diving.

At the same time, the detail that this is happening in the game became clear. It’s like Space Invaders – this is space. And here everything is deep underwater on another planet. Imagine a planet that is one big, deep ocean. You are deep underwater.

In the deep sea depths. As if on a distant planet in space. People only imagine such a planet in theory. An element of science fiction. And there is a deep ocean. And everything around is one continuous water. Dark. And water. Black. It’s dark. Purple.

And some creatures might live there. Like in Lovecraft, something dwells in the depths. A life of its own. Not much like humans. Something dark lives there. Some kind of fish. Or reptiles. Or octopuses. It’s not clear what. But they have submarines there. They’re like spaceships, but underwater. And there are some strange-looking creatures there. Some creatures, like deep-sea fish.

And the game takes place in the depths of this ocean. That’s why I chose the background sound to resemble bubbling bubbles deep underwater. As if a bathyscaphe were floating there. Some kind of apparatus. Or a diver. Complete immersion in the darkness of the ocean. And there are monsters and submarines.

Quiet. And only the air escaping to the surface. This is a distinctive feature. It makes this game unique compared to Space Invaders. There’s space. And here it’s deep underwater. On another planet. And the game is simple, in a small window. So you can play in the office! Quick! For a positive person. It’s not difficult to play. Like! Oh! I completed eight levels deep underwater. On another planet. And it’s like Space Aliens. All arcade games aren’t that simple, usually.

The shooting is active. That is, you have to press the spacebar. Or you can hold it. But it’s designed so that you press it. Like typing on a keyboard. You tap the spacebar moderately and rhythmically. And press left and right. The dynamics are moderate.

That’s about a shot every 0.3 seconds. Roughly. Enemies also have their own shooting rating. As they level up, their abilities increase. They fire more often. This is a limited number of bullets on screen. And the firing time is determined by the interval. For each monster on the screen.

At the beginning, for example. Only two shots on the screen. But in the last level, there are a lot! And on the first level. It’s rare. And on the last level, the monsters fire much more often. Lots of bullets on the screen.

Deep underwater, there’s a world of its own. And its own space aliens. Underwater aliens. It’s a simple game!

Abysses of Dungeons – Magic Decks and Adventures

Today’s pixel art is based on the video game Arcana for the Super Nintendo. It was a super 16-bit console. With incredibly cool graphics and games. Especially in the early 90s. And it was home to a ton of role-playing games. All sorts. Even this one. Something mystical. Tarot cards, probably. Dungeons. And leveling up. And a little anime style.

And this is my drawing based on Arcane (SNES). Mysticism and dungeons. What can I say – a classic theme. The dungeon conceals many mysteries and secrets. Plunged into darkness. So dark that nothing can be seen. The warrior and the sorceress take cautious steps forward.

Everyone has spells, amulets, and weapons at the ready. Anything can happen. For example, a sudden trap. Or a monster jumping out of the darkness. It sees everything. And you can barely see.

There are magic cards here. The ones you bought at the alchemist’s shop. They’ll be very useful. Much depends on this magic of the stars and elements. A successful deck will save an adventurer’s life. More than once. Such a card can help you teleport out of battle, which is unfortunate. Or heal when all your healing potions have run out.

And of course, these are the mythical astral beings you summon. You can befriend some of them, and they’ll become your faithful companions on your adventures. They, from the other side of the mirror, are also curious about what’s going on here. And they can be friends.

But they have their own character. They might not like you. And then the card, such an expensive card, bought from the wizard, will vanish into thin air. You can create creatures from the ether, which exist for a while and then disappear. Cards are very important.

Once the deck is complete, it’s time to head to the dungeon. There are several hours of dungeon raiding ahead. I need to try to get as far as I can while I’m still fresh. And then stop and assess my strength. Make a plan. And at the same time, figure out how interesting this dungeon is.

Some caves are full of monsters and nothing useful. And it can be difficult to move forward. But sometimes there are chests and amulets. You can find all sorts of magical things. And the monsters aren’t that strong. Who knows what’s in that abyss?

Straight Road – Let’s Go to the Seaside, Pre show

[Pre show]

A sunny virtual day has arrived. You can take a ride. In a great car. To the seaside. Or just drive. On a two-lane road. Rarely any other cars. And you’re driving forward. Great weather. Great mood.

8 game levels. 33 car sprites. And 9 types of things on the side of the road. Left and right arrow keys. And just drive and avoid other cars.

A simple game for the office. And for a sunny mood. Even if it’s virtual! But a sunny day! Let’s go to the seaside.

Apple Village – Crystals Should Help

Today’s pixel art based on the Super Nintendo video game Breath of Fire 2. It’s like Dungeons and Dragons. Adventure. A whole world. And so much more. A vast story, like a fantasy saga. Only in 16-bit format. It’s time to play! And immerse yourself in fairytale worlds.

And this is my drawing based on Breath of Fire 2 (SNES). In a quiet place. With lots of trees. Apple trees. And cherry trees. It’s always sunny. Lots of grass. And the inhabitants of this place live here. There are not many of them. A beautiful place. And beyond it lies a magical barrier. And beyond this barrier, which is blue like the sky. There is emptiness. There is eternal night. And there are other worlds there. And they are gloomy. And there are dungeons.

To expand this beautiful place. Its boundaries. To make it bigger. You have to go beyond the magical barrier. And explore the ruins of dark worlds. In search of magical crystals. They can be anywhere in the ruins. In the middle of the night. In dungeons. In castles. With powerful sorcerers. With necromancers. And you need to bring them back. To expand your world.

So, a gremlin said he saw a crystal in one devastated world. Just lying in the ruins. There’s always a gray sky. And almost night. And ruins of buildings. And nothing else. Gray earth. And in the middle, there’s a crystal. But the traveling gremlin didn’t dare put it in his bag. Perhaps it’s a trap. An experienced adventurer should check that out.

So you decide you can give it a try. You harvest apples. And prepare to set off on a journey. In the worst case, the teleporter will transport you back to your world. And the crystals should help make the world bigger.

Beyond the Crystalline Lattice of the Universe - A Conversation with the Observers

Today’s pixel art is based on the Super Nintendo video game Lufia: Fortress of Doom. It was the heyday of cartridge-based role-playing adventures. There were an incredible number of such cartridges. They were full of adventures. Sometimes they were a mix of fantasy and anime elements. Sometimes they were just fantasy. They always looked interesting. These stories were captivating.

And this is my drawing based on Lufia (SNES). The crystal lattice of the universe has opened slightly. And we find ourselves behind this lattice of ice crystal. Inside the crystal is the world we live in. And beyond the crystal are the Observers of the worlds. They are also its creators. We are forbidden to be here. And we must be very careful when speaking to those who are here.

Our world was subjected to the Great Freeze. And it became clear to us that this was an external influence. One of the creators decided to greatly alter the universe within the crystal. But within the crystal there are already several planets and moons. Fully habitable. With magic and civilization. Cities and villages.

A great traveler, warrior, and mage was sent here. Beyond the edge of the world. To speak with the watchers. You’re walking through a castle suspended in the void. It’s neither warm nor cold here. It’s hard to say what it’s like to be beyond the world. And then you see two people. Perhaps it’s time to start a dialogue.

The path here wasn’t easy. Many caves and dungeons. Amulets. And much sorcery had to be used to get here. To find forgotten knowledge. And even resort to ice magic and black magic. Quite a dangerous thing inside the crystal. You need to find a way to stop the freezing, unfreeze everything, and preserve the crystal’s integrity. You need to find allies here.
