okay so hear me out. so if i understand kurzweil correctly then evolution is some sort of… not force… evolution is some sort of entity that drives everything forward. some sort of energy that isnt satisfied with containment within its current form and so is constantly looking for an outlet. it finds that outlet in the cracks and crevices of our existence and it seeps forward.
then it got to humans and they were pretty fucken smart as it turns out. but also they were pretty fucken stupid as it turns out. and that makes them a really useful tool for an insatiable entity like evolution. and so what does evolution do.
well it drives the humans to create this godlike thing called artificial super intelligence. it hangs out hopes of utopia and it lets us define what that utopia is. either peace and harmony and happiness or power and greed and control. this super intelligence doesnt care which because we wont be around long enough to see it.
the current extinction may well include us. if were lucky it will be quick.
