Changed Saint’s clothes today.

I was thinking of dressing him up in something more casual but I wanted to try this set I got and see how it looks. I didn’t put the apron on, I want to set up a cafe-like space first before I take photos of him with the apron (which will take me half of my remaining lifetime 😂). I like it on him but it might suit Nozomi more.🤔

Anyway.

Had a mini panic attack the last few days as Tumblr was suddenly blocked in our country and I was like, “Oh no where will I dump all my doll photos now?!"😱 Was preparing to back up everything in Facebook even though they reduce the quality of the photos.🥲

All is well now, thankfully. Hope it stays that way.

Little Mimi dolls have such a sweet and charming design.

Their small size, delicate faces and soft aesthetic make them feel like tiny characters from a cozy storybook.

I truly adore their gentle and dreamy look. 💖☁

Well, that’s the last DollCon Dallas.

It was a bittersweet event, meeting people who we saw there because they flew in or drove long distances to come to con for what might be the last time. I couldn’t find one of them, which is odd for DCD and worries me honestly given our last conversation. (He’s the one the skeleton dress I keep getting mad at and taking a break from is intended for.)

Brother came with me for the last day, and we both talked about how nice it was for him to start having good experiences in the hobby again. He helped me with the swap/sell, which I had kind of a meh day in because I’d caught a minor bug in the middle of production week and my immune system imploded, so I didn’t have near as much stock as I usually do.

For myself, it was kind of my last hurrah in the dealer’s room. I’m trying to focus on controlling my shopping addiction, so this was a shit time for the soles on almost ALL the shoes I already have to peel off… Shoes and shoe shopping are my nemesis–not that I overdo it, necessarily, I just hate doing it in the first place. I replaced what I could, and focused on things that could be shared for now.

I had a list of what I needed, which I got almost all of, and I wasn’t going to buy any dolls or parts, BUT–

–I can’t believe I found Quirkella Uniqueleigh.*

I’m a huge Click fan, so when I found a FL head making the “quirky xD” face of his r/notlikeothergirls character, I had to get her… She just needs peace hands and a blonde alternate wig. But damn, she really is not like other girls!

I’ve never owned a Fairyland doll before, so I was unaware of the neck connector issue. They REALLY don’t want folks hybriding, do they? Apparently people 3D print alternatives, so if anyone knows someone who does, please let me know. Because like the meme says, right now she’s got half a tin of Mack’s piled around her S hook to keep her head on!

I’m probably going to end up buying another RS 60cm girl body so she can stay on this one, because it’s a hassle to get her head disentangled… And she would make the 3rd shared head for this body, which is a little ridiculous. (There’s being economical, and there’s whatever that is!) But I think it’s worth it overall because I’m gradually falling more and more in love with this silly goose.

But that is a “later” thing. It’s a “MUCH later” thing. Probably going to be my bday present.

More photos later!

*NO IDEA what sculpt she is, and I’ve never seen her before…. Can anybody help me on that??

Do I really want to go down this road right now? Do I REALLY?

No, not really. I’m fn exhausted. Between shark week and a sinus infection I’m about to pass out. Regardless of my energy level (or lack of) I am still in the planning stages of Kit’s wings.

I have been sitting at my desk and creating my sunburst focal that I’ve been working on for months. I have a lot of projects that I’ll work on in spurts, if you haven’t noticed by now.

Before I got hit by a fleet of Mac trucks I did score at the thrift. A brand new set of Testors Enamel.

I also dreaded Zoe’s Monique wig. This took about 10~ish hours. I have a small video of me making a few but I’m nervous to post it.

I also was able to bring Randall back home. I don’t have any pics yet…

But yeah. Still here. I know I fell behind on the February look back challenge, but maybe it will give me something to do here and there after I feel better.

Restoration through Blushing

I just wanted to go a little more into detail about how I reblushed the last two heads I posted, as both are heavily faded and a little greened due to prolonged light exposure. The bigger head is a Soom Thera in bronze from 2015, and the smaller head is a Luts HDF Madeleine in real skin brown from 2016.

This is just how faded they are under their faceups. You can easily tell it’s from sun exposure due to the uneven nature and the fact that the head in the right has built in eyebrows now as the paint from the last Faceup protected the resin color from the light.

First step for me was to blush them with pastels to make the base colors even again. I used different browns and reds to counter the greening. It took about two layers to get them to where I’m happy with their colors.

Next step was my usual, adding the blushing, contouring, and deepening the colors. Pastel colors I used were reds, purples, blues, and some peach tones. I rarely use straight up browns for lighter tans, because I find it often looks unnatural. You’ll also notice that I added the eyebrow base blushing so I know where to paint those.

In the next step I added the eye detailing (brows, lashes, and liner) and a small dusting of shimmer for the two. They are lo at done at this point, only missing their white freckles and then the finishing steps!

Here they are with their white freckles sealed in and they are glossed. I normally do freckles first, before I even blush, because it softens them more. But for white freckles I gotta do them just about last so they don’t discolor when I blush.

Here are the two faceups finished! Not a bad restoration if I may say so!

Thank you for looking!

Here we got another older gal, a Luts HoneyDelf Madeleine in real skin brown from 2016. She also belongs to my dear wife and her color hadn’t stayed stable either.

Just like with the previous doll I posted, I restored her coloring with strategic blushing and then painted her. I think she turned out really sweet. The eyes she’s wearing are some of my first ones, but they look nice in her I’d say!

Naturally since I painted her last in 2016 I had to do a comparison picture of her previous to current faceup. I’m really happy with my improvement over the last decade.

I admit I still struggle with painting white eyebrows and face the individual hairs show up properly. But it’s okay, white is a tricky color for eyebrows and eyelashes and I get better each time!

Have a small owner picture of her with her cookie she’s had for literal years. I think it’s also around 10 years old, made of polymer clay by a collector in Minnesota, as we bought it at a meetup.

This cute Soom LittleGem Thera in bronze from the 2015 FCE belongs to my dear wife. I last painted her shortly after her arrival in July of 2015.

She’s sadly heavily faded in the face, unevenly, due to light exposure as Soom Bronze has always been rather unstable if there’s even a smidge of light. But no matter, I managed to mostly restore her original color with strategic blushing!

I love this comparison, because it really shows how much I’ve improved in the last decade! She looks so much more alive, and the linework is better too. I also have nicer eyelashes now, so those look more natural too. Speaking of eyelashes, I need to soon reorder some…

Here you can see the restored color in the head compared to the faded neck and arms. She’s lovely though!
